This holiday season more than ever we need to support our literary community. Trouble with supply chain delays and the continued impact of the Covid-19 pandemic hit our community hardest during the holiday season. We’ve rounded up 5 ways to support your literary community this holiday season!
1. Offer holiday bookplates. If you’re an author, offer a signed bookplate with a happy holidays message for anyone who buys a copy of your book this holiday season. If you’re a bookseller, consider asking local authors to offer signed bookplates to any holiday book purchases at your store. And if you’re a reader, support your favorite authors by gifting their books with a holiday plate if they offer it.
2. Ask for a bookseller’s recommendation. Your local bookseller knows amazing books beyond just the shiny new title that might be out of stock due to the supply chain snag. Just ask for their help to find the perfect gift you didn’t even know about!
3. Shop local & buy backlist. Keep those holiday dollars in your local economy by shopping at your nearest indie bookstore. Consider buying backlist titles that your store already has on their shelf.
4. Create a bookish holiday drink. If you’re an author, have some fun coming up with a cocktail (or mocktail) that relates to your book(s) to share with your readers this holiday. It’s a fun and innovative way to get some marketing for your book out during this season! If you’re a reader, make some drinks for your favorite titles and share them with your friends!
5. Donate to a literary organization. Giving back to a literary non-profit is the best gift you can give this season to your literary community. Even a small donation can pay it forward to pave the way for our writers of tomorrow.
