Who’s ready for warm drinks, fall leaves, and
good books?
Sure, it’s still warm here in Asheville, but we’re already dreaming about cooler days and nights, curled up under a blanket, with a pet, or by a fire, reading. We’re entering the season of slowing, the season of rest, the season of reset.
Gold Leaf put out its first leaves in the late Spring of 2016 because we wanted to help and educate writers whether in their nascent stage or already in the midst of their careers. Teaching classes is the way that we are able to reach the most writers with information we love to share about the book world and specific ways to build community, promote your work, and explore new options.
So, as you prepare for the seeds to go underground and collect their energy for that Spring growth, we hope you’ll consider joining us for one of our classes or author events below. Get some ideas, inspiration, or new knowledge to take underground, or under the blankets, with you. (You might want to dive into Maia Toll’s The Night School, too: darker parts of the year are an excellent time to explore what the light hides.)

Great Smokies Writing Program: The Literary Ecosystem & the Writer’s Role (5 Tuesdays starting 10/18 @ 6pm EST)
We want to prepare aspiring and current writers for the best of times and the worst of times by giving them the knowledge and tools they need. We will look at what we refer to as the literary ecosystem: the roles within the publishing community, self vs. traditional publishing, working with agents, publishers, and bookstores, and how to build a community that will sustain, and be sustained by, you as an author. We will also help you hone your goals for your work, craft an elevator pitch, and practice talking about your work as a finished product. Virtual vs. in-person events, using social media, newsletters, and other digital resources to connect with readers, and other tips and tricks for making the most of pandemic times and after are included.
